This full-time 42.5 week Diploma program will provide students with a solid foundation of current accounting and payroll practices. Students will learn both manual and computerized accounting, business computer applications and learn how to apply these skills in the real world. In addition, the program provides a comprehensive coverage of Canadian Payroll Administration and process including Labour Standards, basics of payroll practices and procedures, relevant income tax provisions related to salaries, CPP and EI deductions and the importance of using a sound accounting platform to run the payroll accounting system.

Admission Requirements

  • An Ontario Secondary School Diploma or equivalent, or
  • Students are 18 years of age or older and pass a Superintendent approved qualifying test.

Accounting and related clerks calculate, prepare and process bills, invoices, accounts payable and receivable, budgets and other financial records according to established procedures. Common Duties

  • Using computerized and manual systems, calculate, organize and issue bills, invoices, inventory reports, account statements and other financial statements and documents related to accounts.
  • Using a ledger or computer system, code, total, batch, enter, verify and reconcile transactions such as accounts receivable, accounts payable, bank statements, cheques, cheque requisitions, invoices, payroll and purchase orders.
  • Using estimated revenues and expenses and previous budgets to produce budget data and documents.
  • Prepare period or cost statements.
  • Using estimates, price lists and quotations to calculate cost materials, overhead and other expenses.
  • Respond to customer inquiries, solve customer problems and maintain good customer relations.
  • Perform clerical duties such as faxing, managing files and records, photocopying and word processing
